Description

A beautiful, rarely imaged face-on spiral NGC 488 in the constellation Pisces. The galaxy is located ~90 million light years from the Milky Way and forms its own compact group including numerous dwarf companions.  Based on the rotation curve measurements, NGC 488 is thought to possess an unusually massive dark matter halo, probably formed by frequent interactions/mergers with its dwarf neighbors.

This LRGB image was created using the exposures taken with my mobile setup, the 250mm f/4 Lacerta PhotoNewton and ZWO ASI294MM Pro camera over the August-October 2022 period under varying, mostly mediocre, seeing conditions.
